Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company hasn't performed very well compared to the other stocks in the Stock Performance Guide. In fact, if you had invested $5,000 in 1996 you would have a little more than half your initial investment at the end of December 2006. However, if you would have invested the same amount at the beginning of 2005 you would have gained a little over $2,000 in less than two years. Goodyear's stock performance is a good lesson: Even though the stock has performed very poorly over the last 30 years you would still have over 6 times your initial investment. Of course, the past doesn't predict the future but time and diversification are two keys to successful investing in the stock market.
