Microsoft Corporation's (MSFT) initial public offering was on March 13, 1986. Since that time the stock has split 9 times. If you had invested $5,000 in Microsoft's IPO you would have over 1.7 million dollars today when factoring in reinvested dividends. This is an absolutely amazing return in a little over 20 years. In recent years, it has slowed from its torrid pace, but it is still posting decent returns.
