Disclaimer/Contact Us
Verizon Communications (VZ) was formed in July of 2000 when Bell Atlantic and GTE merged.  Before the merger, the company traded under Bell Atlantic (BEL).  Also, in January of 2006 MCI was merged into Verizon (VZ).  The overall return of Verizon for the past 20 years has been relatively poor in comparison to some of the other companies featured in the Stock Performance Guide. However, with the popularity of cell phones and Verizon's share of this market, the future could be brighter.  Of course, cell phones only make up a portion of Verizon's large revenue stream.
*In November of 2006, Idearc, Inc. (IAR) was spun off VZ shares
**Verizon shareholders received 1 share of IAR for every 20 shares of VZ they owned

*In March of 2008, part of Verizon was spun off into Spinco and then it became part of Fairpoint Communications (FRP)
**Verizon shareholders received 1 share of FRP for every 53.0245 shares of VZ they owned

However, currently neither spinoff adds much value to the overall return of Verizon stock so they are not included in the overall Verizon returns.
