Caterpillar (CAT) has been a steady stock performer over the past 25 years.  A $5,000 investment at the beginning of 1985 would be worth over $200,000 today.   Caterpillar's stock has also held up very well during the latest stock market crash, with an investment at the beginning of 2005 more that doubling by the end of 2011.  Caterpillar is another example of how a so called boring stock can steadily grow and post nice returns.
