Caterpillar (CAT) has been a steady stock performer over the past 20 years. Not only has it had some nice long term returns, Caterpillar's stock has tripled in value since 2001. This is one of the best returns over the past 5 years of all the stocks listed in the Stock Performance Guide. Caterpillar is another example of how a so called boring stock can steadily grow and post outstanding returns.
